Another funding application completed!!
I am spending my sunday evening in front of the television with a glass of red wine, relaxing after a busy week planning and preparing funding applications, the second of which was sent earlier today. The Museum is reliant on income from admissions and shop income, both of which have ceased with our closure in March and although the staff are furloughed, we still have expenditure to protect our collections. Like a large percentage of Museums, life is tough.
Scouring grants and external funding in this current climate is almost a full-time job. New funds are released daily and the Government's support is constantly evolving. But to keep the Museum afloat, we have to be aware of the wider financial support for the sector. It wasn't what I initially signed up for when deciding on a career in Museums, but these are challenging times and life is not easy for many. We want to survive!
Continuing to connect with audiences is important to all Museums. And CMoML is no exception. Just after we closed, the staff worked remotely to produce social media posts that could be scheduled over the following few months. Nick has continued to keep the connection with the outside world and take care of Alma block, with regular visits to ensure the protection of the collections. Some of the funding would be for continuing the engagement during these uncertain times and enable us to use our collections to keep up a virtual connection. Because at somepoint we will come out of this lockdown and life will start to return to some sort of normality. And we want to be around when that happens to be ready to open our doors and welcome back visitors. So fingers crossed, we might be successful with one of our applications. Let's hope so.
