Happy 100th Birthday Wilf!

Today is the 100th birthday of Border Regiment veteran Wilf Oldham. Wilf is a veteran of both WW2 battles at Sicily and Arnhem. Unfortunately, I have never met Wilf, he currently lives in the Greater Manchester area. Last year, when I attended the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem at Oosterbeek war cemetery, Wilf unfortunately was unable to be there. However, as one of our veterans, we sent a celebratory birthday card from the Museum staff and Trustees to wish him well.

Wilf was one of the soldiers who escaped crossing the River Rhine at the end of the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944. There are few veterans of the Border Regiment from the Second World War who are still with us, so it is important we pay our respects and remember them.
