Our New External Burma Exhibition

Yesterday, we assembled our new exterior exhibition frames and attached the vinyl panels for our VJ exhibition. Produced by BK Screenprint, we worked with Andy to develop an idea into reality. Working in the scorching sunshine, we cabled tied the banners to the framework, adjusted the spacing to ensure social distancing, and weighted the frames incase of inclement weather.

This outdoor temporary display wouldn't have been possible without the support of Bandoola Productions, whose CEO Simon Sole went with the initial idea. Simon's father served with the 2nd Battalion in Burma during the Second World War, and he has a great personal interest in Imphal. We are lucky to get this support. It has enabled us to use our wonderful photographic collection and compliment them with quotes from soldiers who were part of the campaign.

In this 75th anniversary year, we are keen to let visitors to the site find out more about the war in the Far East. VJ day is often overshadowed by the celebrations of VE day in May. But this year, with the coronavirus pandemic, many plans for VE day were cancelled, including ours at the Museum. However, with the reopening of the site and a lifting of some restrictions, we have plans for Saturday 15th August to compliment our display. And to ensure that the Forgotten Army is not forgotten.
